  • A pre-existing condition is something your pet had, or showed symptoms of, before you took out your policy – and pet insurance doesn’t cover pre-existing conditions. But some insurers distinguish between pre-existing conditions and curable pre-existing conditions. What does that mean? Well, some conditions like cancer or arthritis can never be cured, only managed, but some, like ear infections of gastrointestinal issues, are considered curable. Some insurers say that if your pet has a curable pre-existing condition but stays symptom and treatment free for a period of time, usually six or 12 months, they could be considered cured and that conditions could then be covered on your insurance.

  • Pet insurance is there for the things you don’t know are going to happen, like accidents and illnesses, but there are plenty of things you do know are going to happen with a pet, like vaccines, flea and tick meds, dental cleaning or spaying and neutering.
