Embrace pet insurance has been providing insurance policies to cover dogs and cats since 2006, partnering with American Modern Insurance Group in 2012. Embrace says it provides insurance cover to more than 500,000 pets across the US.
Embrace offers accident and illness cover with a range of coverage levels, with an accident-only plan available for dogs and cats aged 15 years and older with pre-existing conditions.
Policies can provide coverage for a range of conditions – including cancer, arthritis and diabetes – while there’s an additional Wellness Plan available to take care of annual examinations and vaccinations.

How does Embrace pet insurance work?
If you have a pet insurance policy with Embrace, it’s simple to use. Your policy allows you to visit any veterinarian in the US – provided it’s licensed – for treatment. You pay the vet’s bill, making sure to get a receipt, and then submit a claim to Embrace to receive money back.
You can submit a claim online or via Embrace’s app. Once approved, the claim is paid and the money arrives in your account.
The benefits of Embrace pet insurance
Embrace offers some useful benefits to its customers. One of the most notable is the Healthy Pet Deductible feature, which rewards policyholders with a $50 credit towards their deductible for every healthy year – every year you don’t make a claim.
There’s also access to pet experts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week via phone, live chat or video call if you need any advice regarding your pet’s health or behavior. This is provided by PawSupport.
Other benefits include cover for unlimited vet visits, complementary therapies and the option of adding wellness cover.
Embrace plans explained
Embrace offers an accident and illness plan which provides cover for a wide range of injuries and conditions that can affect your dog or cat. Pet parents have a choice of five different levels of annual cover – $5k, $8k, $10k, $15k and Unlimited.
Embrace pet insurance plans have three reimbursement options; 70%, 80% and 90%. There are five deductible options: $100, $250, $500, $750 and $1,000. The level of deductible you select can have an influence on the overall price of your policy, along with other factors such as your pet’s age and breed, and your home location.
If you have a pet aged 15 years or older, or with certain pre-existing conditions, Embrace will offer an accident-only plan that doesn’t provide cover for illnesses.
What does Embrace pet insurance cover?
Embrace Pet Insurance offers comprehensive protection for health conditions – including chronic conditions and congenital and breed-specific conditions. This includes cover for procedures and treatments, diagnostic tests, surgery, hospitalization, emergency care, specialist care and dental illnesses.
Treatment for cancer is covered, as is arthritis and diabetes. Embrace’s accident and illness plans also cover orthopedic conditions – broken bones, ligament tears – and preventable conditions, such as parvovirus and parasite infection.

What is Embrace’s claims process?
Need to make a claim for treatment costs? It’s easy to do. You pay your vet directly for the care provided and then get a copy of the receipt. You can then log into your Embrace account, choose the Submit a Claim menu option, and start the claims process. If you use Embrace’s website or the app, you don’t need to submit a claim form – just complete the requested details and upload the invoice.
You can track the progress of your claim via your account. Embrace says they aim to process claims within 10-15 business days.
You can make a claim via email, if you prefer.
How much will Embrace pay for my claim?
Embrace has three reimbursement levels, so will pay up to 70%, 80% or 90% of your vet bill. You’ll be reimbursed that percentage, minus the set deductible ($100, $250, $500, $750 or $1,000) and co-pay stated on your policy.

Are there any exclusions?
A comprehensive accident and illness pet insurance plan from Embrace covers a wide range of health issues – but, just like all pet insurers, there will be some exclusions. These will be detailed in the terms and conditions of your policy.
Notable exclusions include treatment for pre-existing conditions, care required for breeding, whelping or pregnancy, and deliberate injury caused by yourself or anyone in the same household as your pet.
Cosmetic procedures are also excluded. This means tail docking, ear cropping, and dew claw removal, unless strictly medically necessary.
Routine veterinary care – like annual vaccinations, examinations and spaying/neutering are also excluded from a standard Embrace pet insurance plan. These can be covered by purchasing a Wellness Rewards plan, at additional cost.
What are the waiting periods for conditions?
With an Embrace insurance policy, your pet is covered for accidents from the policy effective date so cover starts straight away.
There’s a 14-day waiting period for all illnesses, but orthopedic conditions have a longer waiting period. These can vary depending on where you live, but are six months in many US states.
Policyholders can check the waiting periods on their MyEmbrace account.
How quickly does Embrace pay claims?
Embrace states that claims are processed in 10-15 business days, provided they have all the information required.
Can I customize my Embrace plan?
Yes, you can customize your Embrace pet insurance plan. Simply choose from a range of annual cover levels, and deductibles, to select the best type of plan for you and your pet.
You also have the option of adding a flexible Pet Wellness Plan, which offers three different plans. Depending on which plan you choose, you can cover the costs of annual vaccinations, grooming and training.
