If pet parents are keen to customize their pet insurance, Figo might be to their liking — this is a highly personalizable policy with lots of options to change the terms of reimbursements and the extent of the coverage. There’s a strong digital aspect to Figo too, with parents able to make claims, access a 24/7 telehealth line, and keep track of their pet’s medical records on the Pet Cloud platform.
We should mention there’s no accident-only plan available, nor the option for Figo to pay the vet directly for costly medical treatment — both of which might be important to parents seeking budget-friendly pet insurance.

How does Figo pet insurance work?
Figo only offers one pet insurance policy for any cat or dog older than 8 weeks. To enrol, parents simply need to submit their pet’s details and choose the level of coverage for which they’re happy to pay. If parents ever need to make a claim, they can do this through the Pet Cloud platform, over email or even by fax.
The benefits of Figo pet insurance
One of the biggest perks of Figo’s approach to pet insurance is parents are really in control over their level of coverage. During the enrolment process, there are multiple options for the deductible, reimbursement and annual limit, while there are several supplementary plans available, which allow parents to receive reimbursements for wellness treatments, vet exam fees and even costs arising from a missing pet.
What’s more, this is a digital-first insurance provider and the Pet Cloud is a great tool for parents. On here, it’s possible to make claims, use a 24/7 telehealth service, organise a pet’s life and search for local businesses.
And good news if you’re a parent to multiple pets or serving in the military — there’s a 5% discount available to you on Figo pet insurance.
Figo plans explained
Whereas many rival providers offer parents the choice of both an accident-only and accident-and-illness policy, Figo only provides the latter. This will reimburse parents for veterinary expenses linked to a pet’s illness or injury, from initial diagnostics and hospitalization to surgery and specialist treatments.
Although this might seem inflexible, parents are given the opportunity to shape their coverage as they wish. There are multiple options available for the deductible, reimbursement percentage and annual limit, plus several supplementary plans that cover vet exam fees, routine treatments and extra care (such as boarding fees and cremation).
What does Figo pet insurance cover?
Almost every aspect of a pet’s recovery from illness or injury — even those that are chronic or hereditary — is included within Figo’s coverage. This includes costs associated with initial diagnostic testing, hospitalization, surgery and visits to veterinary specialists. Dental illnesses and alternative therapies are also covered.
Parents have the option of extending their coverage through the use of supplementary plans, or PowerUps as Figo calls them. For example, there are two tiers — Basic and Plus — of wellness and preventive coverage that will reimburse parents for costs linked to routine treatments, like teeth-cleaning, deworming and vaccines.
For an added cost, parents can be reimbursed for the cost of vet exam fees. There’s also a PowerUp for Extra Care, which will pay parents back for a range of miscellaneous costs, including burial or cremation, boarding fees required when a parent is hospitalized, and third-party property damage liability.

Is Figo pet insurance good value for money?
Every pet insurance policy is unique and no two parents will pay the same amount — this is because a variety of factors are used to determine the premium, including a pet’s age, breed and home location.
Here are a few sample quotes to give you an idea of what you might pay with a Figo pet insurance policy.
4-month-old Mixed Breed Medium | 2-year-old Golden Retriever | 6-year-old Domestic Shorthair Cat | |
---|---|---|---|
Los Angeles | New York | Florida | |
Figo | $60.53/month | $91.52/month | $36.57/month |
Pumpkin | $49.48/month | $92.46/month | $44.61/month |
Pets Best | $55.29/month | $76.69/month | $32.39/month |
Spot | $59.43/month | $77.98/month | $54.54/month |
Lemonade | $59.01/month | $74.82/month | $31.47/month |
How good is Figo’s customer service?
Figo scores highly on Trustpilot, with many reviews praising the customer service provided and the ease of the claims process. The Pet Cloud platform also gives policyholders access to a 24/7 telehealth line.
How do I contact Figo?
Parents can call Figo at 844-738-3446, text at 844-262-8133, fax at 773-966-0769 or email support@figopetinsurance.com
What is Figo’s claims process?
Figo requires three things from parents before they make a claim — a list of all vets seen since adoption or two years before a policy started; a copy of a pet’s medical records; and the paid invoices to be reimbursed. These can be uploaded on the Pet Cloud platform, by email, or fax. Parents can call Figo Claims Support at 888-223-0596 if they require assistance.
Once Figo has received this information, the claim will be processed and if eligible for reimbursement, parents will receive this by direct deposit or check.
How much will Figo pay for my claim?
This depends on what parents choose for the deductible and reimbursement percentage during enrollment.
The deductible has to be paid every year before parents will receive any reimbursement from Figo, so this will have to be subtracted from an eligible claim.
Parents also have to take the reimbursement percentage into consideration. This is the proportion of an eligible claim that Figo will reimburse, with parents making up the rest. If 100% is selected, Figo will reimburse parents for the entire claim, but anything lower — say 70% or 80% — and parents will have to pay for some of the veterinary costs themselves.
Average Vet Bill | Cash back w/ 70% | Cash back w/ 80% | Cash back w/ 90% | Difference w/ 70% |
---|---|---|---|---|
Cancer $8,137 | $5,695.90 | $6,509.60 | $7,323.30 | $1,627.40 |
Diabetes $2,892 | $2,024.40 | $2,313.60 | $2,602.80 | $678.40 |
Tumor Surgery $1,570 | $1,099.00 | $1,256.00 | $1,413.00 | $314.00 |
Inflammatory Glands $1,035 | $724.50 | $828.00 | $931.50 | $207.00 |
Are there any coverage exclusions?
There are. Like all pet insurance providers, Figo is particular about pre-existing conditions, which are medical complaints diagnosed by a vet before a policy begins or during the subsequent waiting periods. Veterinary costs linked to a pre-existing condition will never be eligible for reimbursement.
There’s a small exception to this rule in the form of curable pre-existing conditions — these are illnesses or injuries that can be successfully treated, such as vomiting, ear infections and respiratory infections. Future recurrences of curable pre-existing conditions will be eligible for reimbursement provided the pet in question has been symptom-free for 12 months.
In addition, Figo will not reimburse parents for any expenses related to experimental treatment, cloning procedures, cosmetic surgery, pregnancy, whelping or breeding.
What are the waiting periods for conditions?
Figo operates waiting periods with its coverage. These are 1 day for accidents and injuries, 14 days for illnesses and 6 months for orthopedic conditions, although the latter can be waived if a pet undergoes a veterinary exam within the first 30 days of a policy.
How quickly does Figo pay claims?
Figo asserts that the majority of claims are processed within 3 business days, although it could take up to 30 days in some instances.
When it comes to reimbursement, these will typically take a further 3-5 business days to be transferred to a parent’s bank account if direct deposit is chosen. However, if parents prefer to receive payment as a check, this will usually take another 7-10 days after the claim has been processed.
Can I customize my Figo plan?
Yes, there are several ways in which parents can customize their Figo pet insurance policy.
During enrolment, parents are given four choices for the deductible, which is the specified amount paid annually before an insurance provider will start paying reimbursements — these are $100, $250, $500 and $750.
There are four options for the reimbursement percentage (sometimes known as copay), which is the proportion of an eligible claim that a provider will reimburse — these are 70%, 80%, 90% or 100%.
Lastly, parents can select between annual limits, which is the total amount an insurance provider will reimburse over the course of a year — these are $5,000, $10,000 or Unlimited.
These three customizable elements of Figo pet insurance will have a direct impact on the monthly premium. Those looking to pay less each month should opt for the highest possible deductible and the lowest possible reimbursement percentage and annual limit. Parents seeking to receive higher reimbursements should do the opposite.
Alongside this, parents can further customize their coverage by considering the supplementary coverage on offer. This includes two levels of wellness plans, the reimbursement of vet exam fees, and a package called Extra Care that will cover costs such as cremation, boarding fees when a pet’s hospitalized, and the costs of advertising and rewards when a pet goes missing.
State availability for Figo
Figo Pet Insurance is available in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. Be aware that the coverage might differ slightly from state to state.
Verdict: Is Figo pet insurance good?
There are a few features that make Figo stand out from the pack. Not many providers offer the option of 100% reimbursement on eligible claims, nor such a wide range of additional coverage — it’s fair to say parents can really shape their policy as they see fit. The Pet Cloud platform makes looking after a pet that little bit easier, too.
In terms of drawbacks, there aren’t many. The fact that Figo will never pay vets directly for medical expenses unlike some other providers might be off-putting to some parents, while having to pay for vet exam fees to be included in the coverage isn’t ideal. These are pretty minor negatives though, which goes some way to explaining why Figo is such a popular choice for pet parents across the USA.
