Fetch prides itself on offering some of the most wide-ranging coverage on the market and there’s a large degree of truth to this claim — try and find another provider that includes vet exam fees, alternative treatments and periodontal disease in its baseline coverage.
That being said, it’s not the cheapest option and there’s not the option of an accident-only plan to lower the cost further. There are a few other missing perks too, like multi-pet discounts and direct vet pay.

How does Fetch pet insurance work?
Fetch only offers an accident-and-illness policy for cats and dogs, which will reimburse parents for eligible veterinary costs if a pet hurts themselves or falls ill. After parents submit details about their pet online and select the customizable aspects of the policy, they are provided with a monthly premium (the amount paid for coverage).
If a parent ever needs to make a claim, they can upload invoices from any licensed veterinarian in the USA or Canada online or on the app. These will be swiftly processed and if eligible, reimbursements will be sent out by direct deposit or check, depending on a parent’s preference.
The benefits of Fetch pet insurance
Fetch’s baseline coverage is particularly extensive and includes an assortment of treatments that many competitors either don’t include as standard or at least charge extra for — this includes alternative or holistic therapies, treatment for behavorial issues, wider dental coverage and vet exam fees.
At the same time, parents can further extend their coverage by adding a supplementary wellness plan, which will provide reimbursements for routine treatments, such as vaccinations, spaying, and annual exams. There are three tiers of wellness plans available, which will suit different budgets.
Fetch plans explained
Unlike some other pet insurance providers, Fetch doesn’t offer an accident-only plan and parents can only enrol their pets on an accident-and-illness policy. That being said, there’s a degree of flexibility with the option to customize the deductible, reimbursement percentage and annual limit.
As mentioned, there are three different wellness plans that parents can add to the baseline coverage. This will provide reimbursements for routine treatments.
What does Fetch pet insurance cover?
Fetch takes great pride in offering comprehensive pet insurance. When pets are injured or ill, reimbursements will be made to cover all stages of a pet’s recovery, from the initial diagnostics and hospitalization to surgery and specialist treatment.
In addition, Fetch offers impressive dental coverage, including periodontal disease, oral tumors, and injury or illness to every tooth in a dog’s mouth — some providers only include damage to the canines within coverage.
Alternative therapies are also included within Fetch’s coverage, as are vet exam fees and up to $1,000 a year’s worth of treatment for behavioral issues — it’s rare to find a provider that includes all of these within its baseline coverage.

Is Fetch pet insurance good value for money?
The monthly cost will always be one of the main factors when parents are choosing between pet insurance providers. The example quotes in this table give a good indication as to where Fetch sits in the market.

How good is Fetch’s customer service?
The Trustpilot reviews for Fetch are very positive, with many praising the simplicity of the claims process and the speed at which they received reimbursements.
Policyholders also get access to a remote vet as part of a Fetch policy. Be aware that parents are limited to just $1,000 worth of telehealth a year and this is tied to the same annual limit for behavorial issues treatment — this means the collective reimbursements for both telehealth and behavorial treatments mustn’t exceed $1,000 in a single year.
How do I contact Fetch?
Parents can call +1 866 467 3875, email info@fetchpet.com or use the 24/7 interactive chatbot at fetchpet.com
What is Fetch’s claims process?
Fetch is one of the more digitally-focused pet insurance providers and parents can only claim on the company’s website or app.
Parents must upload finalized invoices outlining their pet’s recent veterinary care, along with detailed medical records (or SOAP notes) from their most recent annual exam. Fetch will process the claim and send out reimbursements if it’s eligible by direct deposit or check.
How much will Fetch pay for my claim?
This depends on what parents select for the deductible and reimbursement percentage during the onboarding process.
The deductible is a set, one-off amount that parents must pay for a pet’s care annually before a pet insurance provider starts to provide reimbursements. With Fetch, there are three options to choose from — $300, $500 or $700.
The reimbursement percentage (or copay) is the proportion of an eligible claim that a pet insurance provider will reimburse. Fetch offers parents the choice of 70%, 80% or 90%. The table below gives parents an idea of how this works in practice.
Average Vet Bill | Cash back w/ 70% | Cash back w/ 80% | Cash back w/ 90% | Difference w/ 70% |
---|---|---|---|---|
Cancer $8,137 | $5,695.90 | $6,509.60 | $7,323.30 | $1,627.40 |
Diabetes $2,892 | $2,024.40 | $2,313.60 | $2,602.80 | $678.40 |
Tumor Surgery $1,570 | $1,099.00 | $1,256.00 | $1,413.00 | $314.00 |
Inflammatory Glands $1,035 | $724.50 | $828.00 | $931.50 | $207.00 |
Are there any coverage exclusions?
It’s just as important for parents to know what’s not included in pet insurance coverage before they enrol.
Like the overwhelming majority of pet insurance providers, Fetch will not reimburse parents for any veterinary costs linked to a pre-existing condition — this is a medical ailment noted by a vet before a policy begins or during a waiting period.
Fetch is among the pet insurance providers that distinguish between incurable and curable pre-existing conditions. Those considered incurable will never be eligible for reimbursements. However, any pre-existing condition that can be successfully treated is considered curable — recurrences of these will be eligible for reimbursement provided the pet in question has gone at least 12 months without displaying symptoms.
In addition, cosmetic treatments — such as tail docking, ear trimming or de-clawing — are not included within Fetch’s coverage, nor are prescription food or claims filed more than 90 days after the treatment took place.
What are the waiting periods for conditions?
Like all pet insurance providers, Fetch operates waiting periods with its coverage — these are specified amounts of time after a policy begins during which parents are unable to make claims. Any medical condition diagnosed during the waiting period will be considered a pre-existing condition.
Fetch’s waiting period is 15 days for both injuries and illnesses, and 6 months for hip or knee injuries. The waiting period for knee injuries can be waived if parents take their pet to be examined by a vet within 30 days of a policy starting and these records are uploaded during the first claim procedure.
How quickly does Fetch pay claims?
Fetch processes most claims within 15 days of document submission. If the claim is found to be eligible, the additional amount of time it takes to receive the reimbursement depends on the method of repayment chosen — parents who set up direct deposit usually receive this 5 to 10 days quicker than those who prefer to receive checks.
Can I customize my Fetch plan?
Yes, there are three ways that parents can customize a Fetch pet insurance policy.
There are three options to choose from for the deductible, which is the one-off amount parents must pay annually before the provider starts to provide reimbursements — these are $300, $500 and $700.
There are also several choices when it comes to the reimbursement percentage (or copay), which is the proportion of an eligible claim that a provider will reimburse — these are 70%, 80% and 90%.
Finally, parents are given flexibility with the annual limit, which is the maximum amount of reimbursement they can receive in a year — these are $5,000, $10,000 and $15,000. There’s no unlimited annual limit available.
Be aware that all three of these customizable features will directly impact the monthly premium. Those looking for a lower premium should set the annual limit and reimbursement percentage as low as possible, and go for the highest available deductible.
State availability for Fetch
Fetch pet insurance is available in all 50 states and will reimburse eligible expenses from any licensed veterinarian in the USA and Canada.
Verdict: Is Fetch pet insurance good?
If you’re looking for the widest coverage available, Fetch is a pretty unbeatable option — the baseline coverage includes many things that competitors choose to exclude or charge extra for, including vet exam fees, periodontal disease, behavorial treatment and alternative therapies.
It’s true that parents are likely to find cheaper quotes elsewhere, but the peace of mind might be a price worth paying for many.
There are a few other absent features that some parents might miss, including multi-pet discounts and the possibility of direct vet payment in the event of especially costly procedures. However, those willing to live without these aspects will likely be satisfied with Fetch’s coverage.
